Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?

No. Public access to every artwork record, artist page, and citation tool is permanently free with no login, no registration, and no tracking. API keys are issued by email.

Can I pay by invoice or purchase order?

Yes. The Institutional tier is designed for university procurement. We issue invoices and accept POs. Email institutions@dartabase.com to start the process.

What happens when a subscription expires?

Your API key is revoked. Public access to the site is unaffected — you can still search and cite manually. Renewals can be set up before expiry to avoid interruption.

Is there a free trial for institutional access?

Yes — a 30-day full-access trial is available for institutional buyers. Contact institutions@dartabase.com to set one up. No payment details required upfront.

Is the free public tier really permanent?

Yes. Individual researchers will always have free access to the full site. The commercial tiers fund the service; they do not gate the research tool.

What does the embeddable search widget cover?

The widget lets you embed a Dartabase search bar on your institution's website, LibGuide, or course platform. Results display inline, with links back to the full record. It requires an Institutional key.
